On Sept 25, Algonquin Park reported two blooms of blue-green Algae which forced the closure of Dickson and Lavielle lakes. It is an important reminder to treat our lakes with respect. Algal bloom formation and subsequent release on toxins is an extremely complex problem which has been extensively studied by both Canadian and US scientists for years. While more is known about toxin formation now than earlier, there are still many gaps in the knowledge base. There are several detailed reports available on the International Joint Commission’s website. www.ijc.org
